To get to Iceland you fly to the international airport Reykavik/Keflavik.
Once you are in Iceland, you have two ways of getting to Isafjordur:
Air Iceland offers two to three daily flights between Reykjavik and Isafjordur. The flight leaves from the domestic airport in the heart of Reykavik and takes about 40 minutes. For details, see www.airiceland.is
To get to Isafjordur from the international airport in Reykjavik/Keflavik, follow road 1, the Ringroad, from Reykjavik through Borgarnes and turn to your left, after about 10-15min drive after Borgarnes onto road #60. After the turn there are about 90km, over two mountain roads, there is a turn to your right on road #61. On you way there is one stop in the town of Budardalur (after about 40 from where you turned onto road#60)
After you turn onto road#61 you follow road 61 through Holmavik and on to Isafjordur. Please note that at this time of the year there could still be snow or ice on some of the roads, especially the mountain roads. Please contact the Road Administration for information before you start your journey. Their info-line can be reached in the four digit number 1777, and their website www.vegagerdin.is/english/road-conditions-and-weather/ shows you the latest information on the state of the roads.
If you are looking to rent a car for your trip to Isafjordur, kindly keep in mind that Hertz (www.hertz.is) is an important sponsor of the Fossavatn Ski Marathon.
Hótel Ísafjörður has a special Fossavatn Ski Marathon offer, see their website www.hotelisafjordur.is.
